Hello, my name is Dalton Barr (DVM, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences), and I have been practicing veterinary medicine for almost two decades now. Over the years, I have come to realize how many pet-owners are not really sure what their animal friend needs, despite having their best interest at heart. It is partially because there are not many easy-to-access resources where people can simply read about what they need to know before getting a pet.
The idea of opening a website solely with the purpose of helping pet owners all over the world first came to me about 5 years ago, but, being no technology expert, the thought took a little time to come to fruition. I finally opened ThePetStep.com where people could come, and hopefully find useful information that they could rely upon.
The Dogs and Cats sections were the first ones started, and they are still handled by myself. But I do need to consult some fish experts for the Fish section in the site. Because keeping a pet means having an additional family member, so it’s not just about keeping it alive. Your pet should also be happy and healthy for you to be a successful pet-owner.
I am planning to get some other sections started as well, and maybe the time will come when I will be able to get experts in other fields of veterinary to contribute to the site.
