Denosyl is a supplement given to dogs and cats to curtail a number of liver problems and increase hepatic function. Its active ingredient is S-Adenosylmethionine [1, 3].
Denosyl works by increasing glutathione antioxidant levels in the body, which helps in fighting various toxins that may be harmful for the liver. It also helps in repairing damaged liver cells [2, 4].

It is not always possible to detect the signs of liver damage in your dog. But, in some cases, there are certain symptoms that might indicate problems in the functioning of the liver. Make sure to contact your vet if you see any of the following symptoms in your pet:
Never give it to your pet without consulting a veterinarian. Doses are prescribed based on the weight of the pet [1]; following are the usual dosage recommended for small, medium, and large dogs:

Tablets are best absorbed when they are administered on an empty stomach, about an hour before feeding. Administer the tablet whole, do not crush or split it, and follow the directions on the packaging [5].
In the absence of Denosyl, you can give your pet Denamarin as an alternative, but do not do so without talking to the vet first. These two products are almost same, with Denamarin having the additional active ingredient silybin (milk thistle extract) that protects the liver further [1].
Denosyl does not usually have any interactions with other drugs [1].
Denosyl does not have any side-effects as long as it is given in the prescribed dose and directions on the packaging are followed [1].
